High availability and durability (HA) HA
High availability (HA) means the system is almost continuously available and functioning (measured as a percentage of uptime, e.g. 99.99%), while durability means that once written, data will not be lost or corrupted. These are two different goals because a system can be durable yet temporarily unavailable, or available yet without a guarantee of data durability.
