Monitoring and alerting
Simple network management protocol (SNMP) SNMP
A protocol for monitoring and managing network devices in which the monitoring system periodically pulls status data (polling), while devices can also proactively send notifications themselves (SNMP traps) as soon as an important event occurs. Traps are therefore more immediate, while polling is regular and under the control of the monitoring system.
