Monitoring and alerting
Agent-based vs. agentless monitoring
With agent-based monitoring a small program (an agent) is installed on the device that collects and sends data locally, giving deeper insight but requiring installation and maintenance. With agentless monitoring the data is collected remotely through existing protocols (e.g. SNMP, WMI) without installing software, which is simpler to deploy but usually gives less detail.
