Denial-of-Service and Distributed Denial-of-Service (DoS/DDoS) DoS/DDoS
A DoS attack overwhelms a service or system with traffic from a single source in order to make it unavailable to legitimate users. DDoS has the same goal, but the attack comes simultaneously from many distributed sources (usually a botnet), which makes it far harder to block.
