Demilitarized zone (DMZ) DMZ

An isolated network segment (a perimeter network) between the internet and the internal network where publicly accessible services such as web and mail servers are placed. It serves as a protective layer because an attacker who compromises a service in the DMZ still does not gain direct access to the internal network.
