Annualized loss expectancy (ALE) ALE
ALE is the total expected loss over one year, and it is calculated as SLE multiplied by the annualized rate of occurrence (ARO), that is, ALE = SLE x ARO. It is used to compare the cost of a protective measure with the expected loss in order to decide whether the investment in protection is worthwhile.
